Before we get to the rankings, here are a couple of notes:
– Four more teams joined LSU in the 30-win club this past week as North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Cal St. Fullerton, and Florida St. all had successful outings. Only The Seminoles (who entered the weekend, ranked 9th by us) find themselves still on the outside looking in of the top five. Mike Martin's club responded nicely after a midweek loss to Florida with a relatively easy sweep of Duke to stay one game ahead of Clemson in the ACC Atlantic division.
– Speaking of Florida, they moved above .500 with a stellar 4-0 showing, adding a sweep of South Carolina to the midweek win over FSU. The Gators don't find themselves in the mix this week, but they are definitely on the way up after a tough start to the season. As for The Gamecocks, they drop six spots after getting swept by a conference opponent for the second time this season. A couple of other SEC teams that dropped were Arkansas (2 spots) and Kentucky (7 spots).
– After opening Big West Conference play by getting swept at home by Cal State Northridge, UC-Irvine has won 7 of its last 8, vaulting themselves back into the top 25 for the first time in over 3 weeks. Pittsburgh and Ole Miss join the Anteaters as teams that find themselves in the polls this week after previously being absent. They replace Notre Dame, Oklahoma St., and Florida Gulf Coast who had a disappointing weekend, getting swept by A-Sun upstart Mercer.
And now this:
|4||Cal St. Fullerton||31-5||4|
|15||North Carolina St.||28-10||18|
Florida Gulf Coast (23)
MISSED THE CUT: Gonzaga, Mercer, Arizona, Michigan St., Oklahoma
St., Central Arkansas, Stanford, Clemson, North Florida, Cal Poly
