CBN Regional Projection 1.3

CBN Staff  |  5/3/13

A couple of quick notes:

– Despite a so-so performance last week, UNC remains on top as the number one overall national seed. If the season were to end today, The Tar Heels would boast the best RPI and the best record. If that is not convincing enough, the selection committee has shown affection towards the ACC in the past. In addition to UNC at the top, The ACC enters these projections with the most national seeds (3), most host sites (5), and is tied with the SEC with most teams (8).

– As for the SEC, South Carolina moved back into hosting territory with a series win at LSU. If the Gamecocks can keep that momentum going culminating with a decent SEC tournament run, they could find themselves as a national seed for the third straight year.

– One other thing that needs to be noted is the lack of a Texas host-site. Since the Super Regional format was introduced prior to the 1999 season, at least one team from Texas has put together a good enough resume to earn a home regional. That's in jeopardy this season with the usual power – Texas – experiencing a down year and Rice having a low RPI. In fact, only The Owls and current Southland Conference leader Lamar are the only two Lone Star State teams in this field.

And now this:
